Under the Radar

by Avalon on January 11, 2012

6am and a wake up call from Ash Ryan from my driveway yelling at me to “Get ready, we’re going for a long distance ocean paddle!”

This is not my favourite way of getting out of bed.

The two depth star 12’6 hollow carbon paddle boards awaited me and with cobweb filled eyes I stumbled into his ride.

Then I Lied To Him

I lied to him when I asked to call by the Surfboard Warehouse on the way to pick up some new coiled leashes… all I wanted was to hydrate myself with Caffine from our Cafe!

Probably wasn’t the best idea I realised after my first km at the helm of a craft that looks like it was purpose built to be undetectable by radar. The hulled nose broke the water like Tommy Donkin through a plate glass window…FAST.

The volume in the rails gave it enough stability to rescue a drowning pony and the follow through after each stroke had me checking for hidden solar powered engines.

Powerful enough to save ponies!

There wasn't really a drowning pony

The walk home up Burleigh Point however had me cursing that they had forgotten to add some wheels to this truly stealth craft :o

35 Minutes was A Leisurely Stroll

We paddled from Currumbin beach front to Burleigh in about 35 minutes in what seemed like a leisurely stroll.

We are taking numbers for our next voyage, so if anyone wants to get a wake up call at 6 am from the Incredible Hulk?
