5 waves in 5 days – Burleigh Point

Posted by The Surfboard Warehouse on

As you travel down the Gold Coast you can’t miss the picturesque Burleigh Heads and the striking headland that is Burleigh Point. It’s an added bonus that it’s also home to an impressive right hand point break. Here’s why we love it.

Burleigh Point

The wave – Burleigh Point is a favourite wave among the surfing community. This right hand point break is a multifaceted wave that throws out a variety of rides depending on weather conditions, swell size and direction, and the position of the sand bank.

Burleigh Point works best in three spots. The Rocky, a fun high-tide wave on the inside section, The Cove, further out the back with big walls to perfect your carves, and Sharkys, which is closest to Tallebudgera Creek. When the swell is pumping surfers can expect lots of tube time all the way from Sharkys through to The Rocky.

This spot can be super crowded, but have patience and you’ll reap the rewards with fun, punchy waves that go the distance. Burleigh Point works best on a SE ground swell with winds S to SW.

Burleigh Point is a popular spot for surf competitions as the point offers up stadium-like viewing that’s perfect for spectators to chill out and watch the surf. In January every year the point hosts the Burleigh Single Fin Festival which attracts pro surfers and showcases some legendary old surfboards.

The Surfboard Warehouse weapon of choice

If you’re surfing Burleigh on a larger swell we recommend boards from The Vessel range. Get onto a performance board, try the Gypsea Sled or Dark Horse to get the speed you need for big carves and powerful rail-to-rail surfing.

The Amazing Grace Retro Fish is an ideal board when the rocky is working; it has the extra width to give you more paddle power and speed while maintaining control.

On a small day with glassy conditions, The Surfboard Warehouse Waterborn Evoke stand up paddle board is the ultimate craft that combines stability with performance. These qualities will help you to get onto those smaller waves, or just admire the scenery as you cruise around the point to Tallebudgera Creek.

Burleigh Point is a beautiful spot with a great vibe that should definitely be on your itinerary if you’re visiting the Gold Coast.
