Product Description

The AQSS Flying Fish is the perfect board to surf in less than perfect conditions.

A wave catching machine the Flying Fish’s wider outline and fuller rails allows for maximum stability, speed and control to glide on through those fatter waves. The Flying Fish in its larger sizes are ideal for a confident beginner but the shape won’t disappoint even the most experienced surfers.

This retro fish is constructed with a bamboo eco sandwich with timber on both the deck and bottom of the board increasing its strength and durability. The subtle double concave through the tail combined with thruster or quad options provides functionality in a variety of surf conditions.

The Flying Fish has been designed to carry maximum volume distribution so you can ride it smaller than your typical fish. The EPS core and higher volume ensure the board floats incredibly well, paddles like a dream and will see you catching more waves per surf session

These boards are a must have for any quiver and will have you grinning ear to ear as you fly down the line.

Best suited for Beginners to Experienced users who want a blend of versatility, stability, strength and performance

  1. Cheats board!!

Posted by Sutto on 8th Oct 2019

Stoked with the flying fish, been riding a 7"6 mahi mahi for the last couple of years, jumped straight back on the 6 footer no dramas!paddles great, easy as to pick up waves, fast and drivey, goes really well with a decent quad set up and small keel trailing fin, shapers Darc drive, happy man, feel like a grommett at age 51, thoroughly recommended,as usual excellent service and delivery time, cheers, sutto

  2. Great looking board

Posted by Gary on 24th Sep 2019

As usual the board was delivered on time with no damage. The board is made well with a little bit of weight in it, but not too much. It paddles well the 6'6" and catches waves well. Better ridden as a quad. Very good value for money.

  3. Awesome service, awesome board (Flying Fish 5'8)

Posted by Vacuum on 15th Sep 2019

This is what I'm talking about. Finally an Australian on-line retailer that knows what service quality and delivery is all about. Package arrived in Sydney in two days! Packaging was top notch. Good value too. Daughter is loving her new board and this board seems to be a perfect board to transition on. Already bought another board from SW...how good are they.....pretty darn good based on our recent experience.

  4. 5'6 flying fish

Posted by Mel on 6th Aug 2019

This board is worth it's weight and some more in gold

  5. Was Able to Move Off My Mini Mal

Posted by Greg C on 10th Jul 2019

I found out about the EPS board technology which is like a foamy inside but a normal hard board on the outside. Because its easy to get onto waves I'm now able to ride this as well as the Mini Mal. Very happy

  6. inbetweener

Posted by chris Hood on 5th Jul 2019

was looking for a board between a short and mini mal, at 95kg the.6'6 still very buoyant, paddles very well, do have to move feet a fair bit to get the board to pick up speed, but has been great so far in smaller conditions, fast delivery, the additional board bag was great quality. first board, but wont be the last from SW

  7. Wave catching machine

Posted by Unknown on 21st May 2019

Love this board, paddles like it's got a motor in it, catches waves with ease, great speed & mobility on the wave. Bought it for the smaller days but has quickly become my go-to board on most days.

  8. Great board

Posted by Kane Ayers on 20th May 2019

The board came well packaged and not a scratch today I had the privilege to get this thing in the water today and it did not disappoint, so easy to paddle on and so stable when getting up! Super stoked! I got the 5 10 it’s perfect for my ability level and lets me catch twice the amount of waves. Will recommend to anyone as a first board.

  9. Fun board and good service

Posted by Unknown on 15th May 2019

Ordered online, arrived well packed with no damage. Got the 6' fish and have tried a couple of times, fun board. Very floaty so sits high, but can flick it around easily. I changed the fins and made it a Quad, much better than the thruster setup it comes with.

  10. I’m still Flying with my Fish

Posted by Paul on 14th May 2019

This is my first board from SW. Great quick service and board arrived in 2 days to Sydney. It’s a very responsive board in all conditions. Thank you so much everyone at SW and keep on bringing out these great board designs at fantastic prices and the latest materials to keep the boards strong and light in weight.

  11. Outstanding value compared to minimal

Posted by Boris Net on 8th May 2019

Caught more waves in one morning with the fish than in 2 years with the minimals. The Fish is a wave catching machine, you hardly have to paddle to get on one. It had also improved my get up technique and forced me to resolve / get rid of bad habits when getting up. This board is easy to turn, is wide and stable, more forgiving than a shortboard and is the best choice for smaller waves or even catching broken waves if you must to practice pop up.

  12. Great service

Posted by Tim Knox on 14th Apr 2019

I’ll admit I was a little bit concerned about buying a board online due to not being able to physically check it over before parting with my money. Another thing that worried me was the board getting damaged in transport.
The board arrived with no damage and was exactly what I was after, I would not hesitate to purchase another from you guys and thankyou very much

  13. Great Board & Great Service

Posted by Andrew on 29th Jan 2019

Ordered Wednesday, received Friday, surfed Saturday - AWESOME service!
Board is so much fun, transitioning from mini-mal to this was no problem at all. Easy to catch waves, super fast and manoeuvrable best value for money, would recommend!

  14. Perfect for progression

Posted by Michael on 3rd Jan 2019

I bought this as the next step in my learning journey from a softboard and I could not be more stoked with how easy the transition to the 6'0 fish has been! So easy to catch even small mushy waves, and perfect for learning turns and intermediate skills. Feels so good under your feet. Couldn't recommend more for those progressing their surfing!

  15. Absolutely Amazing

Posted by Sophia on 23rd Sep 2018

I recently purchased this board and I couldn’t have been happier! Easy to ride, beautiful colour, nice shape and very light. I was catching wave after wave on this board. Very easy to duck dive with! I would highly recommend this board!!

  16. Funtastic board

Posted by Unknown on 24th Jun 2018

First board I’ve ever bought! Bought my first 6’2 board, transitioning from a 7’0 mini mal. I consider myself between beginner and intermediate, It was an easy transition and to catch waves on even during choppy and bad conditions. I thought my transition from a mini mal to the flying fish would be difficult but the first time I rode it, it actually was easy. Probably could have even got a 6’0 or shorter.

  17. Epic board

Posted by Unknown on 21st May 2018

Great board, gets waves so easy. The 6’2” as a thruster is great to learn on and even better for an old longboard rider like me. I can throw it round like im a kid again.

  18. great board as a quad.

Posted by Sammy Sam on 1st Apr 2018

thruster is suited for fuller days, Once you start playing with the fin configuration its a different story, I am 178cm and 85kg, The 5' 10" with its almost 42 litre is buoyant but easy to dive and fairly easy to get on any wave.
Once you try twin and my now preferred quad the board comes into its own, with quad you can get steep barrels as you have 2 fins on the rail and with no centre fin drag lots of speed, you can still slide the board out like a twin with its fine placement although has nice control. Good all round ride loving it best in 2 to 5 ft . really fun board.

  19. Stoked

Posted by Unknown on 31st Jan 2018

After a small mix-up in the ordering stage (which the staff resolved before I was even aware there was an issue) the board arrived incredibly fast. Normally shipments from the East to Perth take yonks but the board arrived in around 4 working days.
No worries with the packing, it was wrapped up super-secure in layers of foam inside a box.
The board itself is everything that was advertised. Floaty. Not as bouyant as longer foam board and not as agile as a proper shortboard but that sweet spot in between. So much fun. Seems well-built but time will tell.
One of the fins that came with it snapped off on the second surf, but the plugs are glassed in solidly. Grabbed some fins from another board and straight back into it.

  20. Best board! So easy to catch waves

Posted by Timmy on 8th Jan 2018

I’ve bought this board and absolutely love it. Perfect for small waves. Great for beginners and intermediates

  21. Best birthday present

Posted by Unknown on 27th Oct 2017

We couldn't be happier with this surfboard. We purchased it as a birthday present 13 year old daughter - she took the board out straight away, she caught wave after wave, the board was so easy for her to manage - we had one very happy 13 year old! Board looks beautiful too, and was delivered within a few days of ordering. Thank you !

  22. Perfect first hard board

Posted by nigel chapman on 7th Sep 2017

I bought this for my partner after she's been riding a 6'6 soft board. We took the 6'0 to Sri Lanka and she loved it.. It's light, easy to manage, buoyant and strong. Also allowed her to trim and pump a little in the pocket. We were both super stoked!

  23. an old man's delight

Posted by Bags on 2nd Aug 2017

this is the shortest board I have had for years(surfing since I was 7) it works really well, manoeuvrable, fast, paddles easy, picks up waves easy. I think you can say I'm impressed. So far it seems to be a well made board that I hope will last. one small thing is one of the fin screws is at too flat an angle, I need to be careful when screwing it tighter.

  24. Great first board

Posted by Fred Schwenke on 30th Jan 2017

My two daughters have just graduated from a soft top Malibu to the fish for fun on Sydney beach and point breaks. Both girls love the style of the board and have transitioned easily to the fish. In fact they love the speed and maneuverability with no loss of wave catching ability. I love this board. I am not sure the designers will agree but it reminds me of the Mark Richards twin fin I learned to surf on in the 80's
