Product Description

Want versatility? Vessel’s Dark Horse is certainly no one-trick pony. The Dark Horse offers a wider profile which is tailored for those smaller days or for surfers who want more paddle power. These spritely high performance shortboards get you into waves earlier and get you across them faster. The Dark Horse was designed with aerial surfers in mind. This board has proven itself as a high performer in waves up to 5 feet. Generous single concave flows from the nose to a slight double through the fins and tail, allowing drive and acceleration through bottom turns and flow between rail-to-rail carves.

This model is available in several different lengths and comes with a five-fin setup giving you the option of either a thruster or quad. Regardless of your weight, height and experience, these boards cater for the pros to the beginners and perform well in a variety of conditions. The torque control carbon tail bands help to improve strength, flex and control. If you’re after a fun, super responsive all-round shortboard, then the Dark Horse is it! Inspired by the latest designs being used on the pro tour, without the price tag.

  1. Great performance board

Posted by Tim on 1st Sep 2017

Ordered my Dark Horse on Sunday, arrived in Victoria on Thursday. Condition was perfect. Quality of the finish was almost as good as my DHD - probably the same. First surf in cross shore 3 to 4 foot and the board felt amazing. Nice wide sweet spot for the front foot, i misplaced one of my pop ups pretty badly and was still able to do a decent turn. The board was stable in the pop up and not too light. The nice tight-ish squash tail with the bottom concave made the board light up when you want to turn it off the top. With a thruster set of AM-1s it had plenty of speed and drive.

Basically this is the best 'budget' board I have ever ridden, it easily compares to a DHD in the way it feels and looks. Obviously unlike other competitive brands, they have some really talented team riders and shapers, because the dark horse felt really refined.

I'm going to be buying another vessel board as soon as I can sell some of my other boards. Very happy!
